Murrini Cafe
Danville, KY
Designed as part of a major expansion for the Art Center of the Bluegrass and the National Glass Museum, Murrini Café was envisioned as an extension of the museum experience itself. The goal was to create a place where patrons could spend the entire day — viewing art, meeting artists, creating, dining, and gathering — with the café serving as both a pause and a destination.
The objective was to provide a community-focused amenity that felt elevated and immersive, while supporting the Art Center’s donor-funded mission through events, catering, and daily use.
The café was designed as a canvas for both visual and culinary art. An earth-toned palette and luxurious textures create a calm backdrop for rotating artwork, while monolithic arches frame moments of discovery throughout the space. Rhythmic paneling wraps the walls and flows seamlessly into a rich walnut bar, reinforcing a sense of continuity and craft. Walnut millwork envelops the back bar, where featured spirits are set against fluted tile and antique mirror, reflecting the glow of intricate blown-glass chandeliers. Repeated fluted details on velvet banquettes further immerse guests in a layered, sensory experience.
Today, Murrini Café is a beloved destination for locals and visitors alike — equally suited for lingering lunches, formal tea services, and special events. The space has been embraced by the community for its ability to feel both cosmopolitan and welcoming, offering something entirely new to the region while still feeling deeply rooted in place..
